Twitter
Twitter is a free social networking and
micro-blogging service that enables users to send short text-based posts of up
to 140 characters in length to other users. Its a popular way to keep in touch
with friends and family and has previously been used as an emergency
information tool. The service is free to use over the Internet, but using SMS
may incur phone service provider fees.
You can receive emergency alerts or "tweets" by joining the Sarnia-Lambton
Twitter Feed netalerts_sl
as a follower.
However due to the limitations on message size and other
considerations there are some things to note:
- Only a brief snippet of information will be available through the
Twitter feed. You should click the included link in each message to be taken
to the main AlertSite to receive full details.
- Alert filtering capabilities are not available. All alerts from green to red level
and for all areas will be posted to the Twitter feed.
- Tweets are only available in English right now, with enough interest
we will expand to offer a French feed as well.
Twitter is a great way to stay informed and aware of alerts. Contact our
HelpDesk if you have any further
questions about Twitter.
